About & Data
Where our numbers come from
Well Depth Finder summarizes public well driller reports from the Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) for the area around any Idaho address.
The data
Idaho requires every well to be drilled by a licensed driller, who files a report with IDWR. Those reports record the well's total depth, static water level, production rate (gallons per minute), use and construction date. IDWR publishes them in its public Wells database. Records are most complete from July 1987 onward; older records are less complete, and some are located only to a 40-acre block rather than an exact lot.
How we calculate
- We locate your address, then pull every IDWR well record within the radius you choose (½, 1 or 2 miles).
- We report medians and the middle 50% of depths, so one unusually shallow or deep well doesn't skew the picture.
- Records without a reported value are left out of that value's calculation.
What it can't tell you
These are historical records, not a survey of your property. Ground conditions change over short distances and water levels change over time. Only drilling confirms depth, yield and water quality. Always get quotes from licensed drillers and test your water.
